"One book, one pen, one child, and one teacher can change the world." -  Malala Yousafzai

Their world of scribbles is full of imaginations. Playing in it with boxes of crayons, series of comics and bags of blocks... kids today grow up with a distinct mind of creativity. The riddle that your are drilling your brain for a solution has already been solved by one young mind. Unlike us they have hardly experienced the world around. But ask them about UK being separated from EU, they will draw a perfect picture of it. Ask them about technology today and they will start sharing about innovations tomorrow. This generation is filled with knowledge as well.

Imaginations, creativity and knowledge altogether in today's kids has been an inspiration for the world. They are the creators of robots, space crafts and skyscrapers. The journey starts from a simple drawing book and so on. What we all need to do is to show them the right path by helping them in creating the reality. One such reality in the form of a DIY craft is a toy train made from Kraft gift boxes with lids. Below here is an easy process on how to make a toy train with Kraft gift boxes for your kid.

Requirements:

  1. Brown Kraft Gift Boxes Square - 2 Pieces
  • 4 Large (10x10x10) cms
  • 1 Small (5x5x5) cms
  1. Brown Kraft Gift Boxes Rectangle - 2 pieces
  • 1 Small (10x7.5x3.75) cms
  1. 2 mm card board sheet
  2. Eyebrow sticks
  3. 3 Wooden popsicle sticks
  4. Stationeries
  • Glue
  • Cutter

Step 1: Layout

In the first stage draw a layout of the toy train, which is going to help you in creating it with Kraft gift boxes with lids. Number each box as shown in the picture below.

Step 2: Make the holes

Take box 1 and make a small hole with a nail or eyebrow stick at the base of the main bar keeping a distance of 1 cm from the edge. In the 2nd and 3rd boxes make two holes at both sides of the base of the main bars keeping the same distance from the edge. In the 4th box make one small hole at the base of the main bar keeping a distance of 1 cm from the edge. Have a look on the diagram below:

Step 3 & 4: Compartments

Make 6 cylindrical rolls of paper having a diameter that can fit into the holes. Now make 2 holes on each of 3 wooden popsicle stick (keep a distance of 1 cm from the edge on each side) having the exact diameter like that of the hole made on the boxes.

Now insert the rolls of paper to fix the each box with wooden popsicle stick. Check the image below:

Step 5: Engine

Fix with a glue box 4 with 5 and 5 with 6 as shown in the above layout.

Step 6: Wheels

Cut the wheels from the 2 mm card board sheet, measuring a diameter approximately 4 cm. Now fix the wheels at the edge of the eyebrow sticks and paste each of them at the base outside of each box.

Step 7: Finishing

Toy train made from Kraft gift boxes with lids is now ready to hit the track. For a better finish you can cut windows and doors. In addition, to make it attractive you can paint it even. Here is a sample of how a toy train made from Kraft gift boxes with lids will look like:
