How to Color the Gift Box and Add Simple Designs?

Mostly, large square gift boxes come in plain brown or white colour. It is not that bad. A blank box is a great canvas where you can decorate and design anything. In this post, we will help you add simple designs on the small gift boxes with lid, stamps, wrapping paper, and markers. There is no need to use all of them. Just choose the one or two that fits best with it.

Use a paint pen or permanent marker to add designs or writing on the box. Permanent markers are easier and more affordable. But paint pens are more opaque and show up in the dark colours and patterns. You may want to write simple messages like “with Love”, “Merry Christmas” or Happy Birthday or draw any design like spirals, hearts, and swirls.

Stamp designs with an ink pad and rubber stamps – Regular rubber stamps and ink pads are enough to stamp designs. Cut your own stamps with thin sponges. For ink, use tempera paint.

Decorate with some stickers and add gift wrap effect – Most of the gift wraps have a repeating pattern. It is not essential your gift wrap should have the same. You can even add the effect of gift wrap. Arrange your stickers in a checkered or grid pattern and use only one shape or two to make your gift box look appealing and refined.

Be sure to paint your gift box – Remove the lid and paint each piece. You may paint it with acrylic paint with a paintbrush or foam brush. You may also consider spray paint. To add more designs, let it dry first and paint on smaller designs with a thin paintbrush.

Now add some confetti or glitter to blast glitter. Spread a thin Mod Podge layer on the side. Spread some glitter or confetti over the box. You may use as much or little as you like. To glitter the whole box, let the current side dry properly before you proceed.

Add a colour stripe with wrapping paper – Now put your gift in the box and place the lid on. Cut a long wrapping paper strip which is one-third of box width. Make sure it is long enough to wrap over the box. Place the strip over the box and wrap it around the sides. Secure the ends of strip to the bottom with a transparent tape.
